Turkey is still in partial lock-down. That means daily curfews and (mostly) full closure on Sunday. There are a couple of exceptions. For example, the rules don’t apply to tourists (we respect them in any event) and businesses can apply for exemptions if their circumstances warrant. We love how quiet it is in and around the Marina on Sundays. The Marina is located in a National Park, in a dip between two big hills. We went for a long walk last Sunday.

It was rainy for most of the week. That gave us a chance to do a few more things on board. Someone was here to inspect the steering system. They cleaned and greased all of the joints. We also had someone on board to assist with sorting out the various electronics; getting them properly set up so the various devices “talk” to each other.

One job we have been working at since returning is a stubborn clogged drain in one of the aft lazarettes. Roger finally convinced me to “go into the basement” and check the plumbing routing and connections.

Rainy days give us the chance to continue going through things. I was reminded this week of the extent of the record keeping by the original owner. The build is well-documented and DFN is well stocked with equipment and spare parts. We are still discovering things we didn’t know we had. Putting some things to use and discarding a few things that were broken and just taking up valuable space.

We are still waiting for the winch parts. They are currently held hostage at Turkish Customs in Istanbul. So close; but, so far. We have managed to find enough parts so that the two primary winches are operational. But for the lock-down, we would have gone for a trial sail today; perhaps in the coming days. Instead we went for another long walk. We covered one side of the Marina, it was an hour walk. This place is huge! Stopped to check the progress on Nova Vida and Delawana, our sister yachts from NS, on our route.

WOW! So proud of you for clearing the clog, I must admit that I winced at the thought of what you could find. EEEEEK! Scenery is stunning. Any chance that you know Phil Walsh? Friend of a friend of friends :) who is heading to Turkey to sail. I know...this is probably like saying “I have a friend in Canada, do you know them?” Hope that your winch parts make it through customs soon, I can only imagine how excited you are to sail. Love you. Xx

We do know Phil! We are looking forward to his arrival in a few weeks.

Jesus you two are just lacking eye patches and two parrots or you’d be the best pirates in the place. Glad to hear good news on the clog.be careful Roger, on the winch repack,I did it once and wanted to set myself on fire after wards. Wasn’t the most organized at the time.in any case you kids look happy and snow s gone here so I’m also pretty cheery. Take great care. Miss you both.
