We ended up spending a few days at Porto Azzuro, Elba. It was a lovely little town to walk around and explore. There were a couple of beaches for swimming, lots of shops and restaurants. We ran into a couple of fellow boaters there that we had met in Santa Marinella. We had a few enjoyable cocktails and nice dinners with them. They have been keeping their boat in Fiumicino (a different marina and different part of the river than us) since 2019. They shared lots of tips and information about this area. They were here from Germany for only ten days this time. I hope our paths cross again in the Spring.

Mid-week we had a weather-window to make the longer jump to Corsica; so, we set out on the seven-hour journey. We had the perfect day. I don’t think I can jinx it by saying that after the fact.

Corsica is a French island situated among the Italian islands just off the western coast of Italy. Our first stop in Corsica was Port Toga. Port Toga is a small port and marina situated next to the larger port of Bastia where the ferries and cruise ships come and go. We did some shopping and explored the Vieux Port, all within walking distance of the marina.

After Port Toga we began the journey south along the eastern side of Corsica towards Sardinia. The shoreline is beach, not a lot of places for a big girl like DFN to stop for the night. The prevailing winds this time of year are mostly from the south. We chose a very calm day for the next leg of the journey to Port di Solenzara since we knew we would be mostly motoring.

We are waiting at Solenzara for a package that was meant to arrive on Friday. It is very quiet this time of year, even the marina office is closed for the weekend; so, we are here until Monday. The marina is a bit of a hub, lots of restaurants here and seems like locals on their boats. There is a clean sandy beach right next door. The water temp is 25 degrees.

We used our days here to clean the boat inside and out, defrost the refrigerator and freezer, and walk a kilometer to the nearest grocery store to get a few things… …just so you know it’s not all fun and games.

I am laughing about the not all fun and games - I applaud your effort at not rubbing it in. So glad you had great weather for your long sail - I am sure DFN was happy to stretch her sails for a good journey. Like a seven hour warrior pose! Fun and not surprising that you are crossing paths more than once with folks on your journey. The world is as small as it is big.
