Hello and Welcome to Adventure on board “Dolce Farr Niente” or DFN for short. We hope to chronicle the decision to embark on a sailing trip that has been in the making for many years. Like most sailing adventures the most exciting part can often be planning and researching what is required to execute a safe and comfortable trip on the water.

For a short introduction Peggy and I live on the east cost of Canada, Nova Scotia to be precise. The ocean has been an integral part of our life and sailing a special part of that life. Although we enjoy sailing, up to now, we have not owned a boat; we depended on the kindness of friends that welcomed us on their boats for cruising the east coast. Another big influencer on our desire to cruise has been chartering in the Caribbean. Our first bare boat charter was in the BVI’s in 1986. We continued to charter on a regular basis and managed to expand our charter adventures from the Bahamas as far south as Grenada, as well as a two-week charter in Thailand. We were hooked on the lifestyle and all the new and wonderful things we experienced.

About four years ago I started the serious search for a live aboard sailing boat. The search and learning curve commenced in the fall of 2017. In a matter of a few days all our computers and phones had pop-up information on yacht sales and yacht equipment. Because we were not boat owners; but, knew we wanted to be comfortable and safe, reading cruiser sites and boat listing sites was an extremely important first step. After a full year of research and reading every listing of boats on the market from North America to the Mediterranean we realized we would have to settle in for a lengthy search. The more information we had the more we refined or search.

Basic starting points:
