In the week or so since our last post, we have left Marmaris Yacht Marina and explored a number of nearby anchorages–some new spots and a repeat of some favourites.

We spent our first couple of nights in Marmaris Bay at two different anchorages. The Google Maps screenshot shows us at one of our favourite spots. We are the blue dot. You can see we are not far from the Marina to the right of us in this pic. The picture of the beach is an example of the shoreline at that anchorage and the other shot is looking across the bay towards the town of Marmaris.

When we left Marmaris we headed southeast to Fethiye Korfezi. Fethiye is a very large gulf that has a number of beautiful anchorages in Skopea Limani (a bay on the western side of the gulf as you enter coming from Marmaris), the town of Gocek (at the northern end) and the city of Fethiye (on the western side). We have stayed in Skopea Limani many times and I don’t think we have been in the same anchorage twice. This time we stayed in a little cove called Sarsala Koyu. Sarsala Koyu was idyllic until it wasn’t anymore. We ended up hauling anchor at sunrise and moving ourselves to an anchorage just off Gocek.

We don’t see a lot of sunrises on DFN, I thought I better get a pic. We had planned Gocek as our next stop in any event. We had a lovely afternoon in town, enjoying lunch and shopping for provisions. That is DFN in the distance in that third pic.

We positioned ourselves at Kizilkuyruk Koyu for an early start the next day. The forecast called for favourable winds to carry us west for the next leg of our Spring adventure. We were not disappointed, we had a seven and a half hour journey backtracking west, past Marmaris, to Bozukkale Buku. We spent the best part of the day on a broad reach.

At Bozukkale we tied up at the Loryma Restaurant dock. We were the only boat. They insisted they were open and that they should feed us. We convinced them we should have take-out since it was a little cool for eating at the open-air restaurant. The food–grilled calamari, Turkish salad, fries and brown bread was delicious.

You can’t get to this place by car; but, there are three restaurants all ready to welcome sailors at their docks. The next day (yesterday) we explored the crazy mix of geese, goats, donkeys, lots of rocks and even a peacock at Bozukkale.

This morning we left Bozukkale and rounded the corner into Yesilova Korfezi. We tucked into another amazing and secluded anchorage behind Kizil Adasi. This gem of an anchorage is reported to be well-protected from the ups and downs of the wind over the next day or so. And we are well-positioned for the trip northwest around the Datca peninsula and into Gokova Korkezi.

You guys are living the life!! Great weather, great food, and great sailing! Ice is gone from our cove, and we are now watching the freshet, which so far is not too bad for us. Can’t wait to see where you head next.
