The day actually started off pretty good. Burak dropped by for a visit just as Roger was getting ready to fix the washing machine. Poor Kenny (the washing machine) he is like Kenny on South Park who dies in every episode. For this reason, we keep an inventory of spare parts on board. Anyway, I digress. The washing machine repair was a success, Roger had the necessary spare parts on board and Burak stuck around to help. I will have a load of laundry going again before you know it!

We noticed problems with the electrical power earlier in the morning. We thought it was a Marina problem which does happen from time-to-time. We were keeping an eye on it. While Burak was still here, we realized our battery charger was not working. He immediately started trouble shooting that problem with us. He is very familiar with our electrical system, the batteries, the charger, etc. because he coordinated an overhaul in 2021 and 2022. After some digging we (okay Burak) identified a faulty breaker on the main electrical panel. It had gotten hot enough to burn the wires. This could have been a disaster. Fortunately the boat failsafe worked and the battery charger turned itself off.

This is the burned-out breaker. We just replaced all of these breakers in Spring 2022. We will be here in the Marina until this problem is resolved.

Oh but that is not the end of our troubles. Our freshwater pump started coming on every 20 minutes or so, just a quick on and off. This usually means water is dripping somewhere (or it could be an airlock). While investigating for possible water leaks, we did find some water in a small, isolated section of the bilge. That water doesn’t appear to be related to the pump issue. But, truth told, we are still working on both the pump and the unexplained water issues. I did fill the water tanks today; so, it could be just overflow. We will continue to monitor. I won’t mention that during all of this, we dripped something on the teak deck which has made a stain.

Oh well, you know the saying… …even a bad day on the boat is better than a good day in the office. Cheers to that!
