Zakinthos is the most southern island of the Northern Ionian group of islands. We spent two nights in the little bay of Nikolaos at the north eastern tip of the island.
The bay at Nikolaos is protected by a small island, Agios Nikolaos, at the entrance to the bay. Our research indicated the bay is well-sheltered from all directions except east. We waited a couple of days at anchor in Ithica for some easterlies to pass before embarking on the five-hour passage.

When we arrived, the conditions were almost untenable with pretty good-sized swells from the east. After circling for a bit, we did manage to get secured to the quay with the help of Dimitri’s crew on the dock. We weren’t quite sure what to make of the place. The conditions did settle, as forecasted, and we discovered it is quite a lovely little village.
