We were back in Canada for the summer. We have been travelling on visitors’ visas which allow us to be in Turkey for 90 days in a 180-day period. That has been working fine for us; we have no desire to be here in the height of the heat and busy tourist season, plus we like to be home with our friends and family for the summer and Christmas/New Year’s holidays. DFN was launched on August 25, 2021.

Being away from DFN is the perfect time for certain maintenance activities. This time we left her in the care of Erdal Yacht Technical Service. Maintenance performed by Erdal and team included servicing and repairing the mumba drive, cleaning the bottom and applying another coat of anti-fouling, repositioning of the radar, small repair on the rudder, and replacing the propeller shaft bearings. Erdal and his team also polished the hull in advance of the launch and washed the mast before the sails were installed.

The significant, but less photogenic maintenance, performed by Marlin under the watchful eye of Burak included servicing the generator, engine and watermaker. They also serviced and rebuilt the windlass. We decided to add another lithium ion battery to the house bank. Since our return we have discovered the air conditioning required service. The issue there was first diagnosed as a problem with the pump, then an issue at the electrical panel and finally a combination of the two. We are currently waiting on service of the electrical panel and the AC pump which is expected to be completed in the coming week.

My first week included cleaning the fenders and putting on new covers, laundry and (my favourite reward) Doritos.

More on what Roger has been up to in our next post. Stay tuned!
